Proactive Participation in LinkedIn Groups
You might know that you can join up to 50 LinkedIn Groups. That’s a lot of groups, make sure you adjust the Group Digest Settings. There’s no way you can actively participate in 50 groups, so choose 2 or 3 to focus on.
Below are some tips on how you to be pro-active & selective in your group engagement.
Scan the Group Digest E-Mail for interesting discussions
Whether you choose daily or weekly group digest e-mails, they are a good way to stay informed about interesting dialogues happening on your group. Scan them on a regular basis and decide where you want to jump in and share your opinion or experience.
Use the Group Search function
Within each group you have the option to search for topics that are of interest to you. Here’s how it works:
- Go into your group
- Click on ‘Search’ in the group menu bar
- Enter the topic keyword you want to search for in the right hand search bar
In the same location you can also search for previous polls, discussions you’ve started, you’ve joined or which you are following.
So let’s say you I want to search a group for discussions or questions around the topic of LinkedIn. I would then perform the above search for the keyword “LinkedIn” and could then jump into the existing discussions to share my opinion or advice. This is a good way to increase exposure & visibility for yourself without being pushy.
Your turn: how are you making the most out of your LinkedIn Group participation?
