For my new readers: welcome too ! I just switched from blogger to this awesome, new WordPress blog :-) I hope you will come back regularly.

You have probably heard it. Everybody is talking about Google+. They call it the new Facebook. And as a Social Media specialist I should probably be part of that group. However, I am not (at least not yet). Let me explain why:

One of the most important questions I ask a new client during a Initial Consultation for a Social Media Strategy is: “who is your target client and where does he hang out ?” We try to define average age, sex and social media savviness of his/her clientele. If they are young adults, they will be on Facebook and Twitter. If they are executives they will be on LinkedIn, and if they are other business owners maybe on all three of them.

So when evaluating if yes or no I should jump into this new thing called Google+ I asked myself the same questions: is my target clientele (other small business owners in Europe) hanging out on Google+ ?

I came to the conclusion that they are not. My ideal client is new to Social Media, wants to learn how to use it for his/her business so it is very unlikely that he/she is already hanging out on Google+. Remember, I am talking about business owners in Europe. This might be a different story in the US.

So, for the time being I will focus my attention on LinkedIn and Facebook (and I’m trying to increase my activity on Twitter :-)

What about you ? Are you on Google+ ? Do you like it ?

  1. Welcome to WordPress. You’re going to LOVE it!

I agree with you about Google +. I’m watching it for now, but I’m not recommending it to clients until it has a lot more traffic.
